Soyer: “Fortunately, we have our sultans”

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer watched the final match of the Sultans of the Net, who became European Champions for the first time, with thousands of young people at the Izmir International Fair. Celebrating the historic victory with the young people after the breathtaking match, President Soyer said, “It is a victory that increases our excitement for the future. “It’s a good thing we have our sultans,” he said.

The 2023 CEV European Championship of the National Women’s Volleyball Team, which has its name written in golden letters in history on the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey, was celebrated with enthusiasm at the 92nd Izmir International Fair. For the final match, in which the Sultans of the Net made history with a score of 3-2 against Serbia, three separate giant screens were installed: the Wooden Stage in the Kültürpark Youth Area, the Quiz Competition Stage, and the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Stand Stage. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer came to the Wooden Stage and watched the match with thousands of young people filling the area.

Mayor Tunç Soyer, who encountered great interest from young people in the area, took a selfie with all of them. President Soyer followed the breathtaking match with excitement. After the last issue of the Sultans of the Net, screams of joy echoed all around the Izmir International Fair. Mayor Soyer celebrated the victory by singing anthems with the young people.

“A victory that raises our hopes”

After the championship, Mayor Soyer said, “We are delighted, we are very proud. It is a victory that raises our hopes and excitement for the future as a nation struggles with crises and the high cost of living. This championship is very valuable. It touched all of our hearts. It’s a good thing we have our sultans. “We saw once again that women have everything they have,” he said.

Red and White Kulturpark

Championship celebrations took place everywhere, from the match screens to the Grass Concerts stage. While the 92nd Izmir International Fair was covered in red and white with Turkish flags, Kültürpark groaned with national anthems and Turkish slogans.
