Mayor Tunç Soyer recently inspected the Botanical EXPO site, which is to be hosted by Izmir in 2026. During the inspection, Mayor Soyer received updates on the demolition progress of expropriated structures and the ongoing activities related to the project in Yeşildere Valley. He expressed that the ambitious undertaking, set to introduce a green space three times larger than Kültürpark, is a transformative initiative that will reshape Izmir's skyline.

The ongoing demolition of expropriated structures in Yeşildere Valley is part of the preparations for the International Horticulture EXPO (Botanical EXPO 2026), a prestigious event secured for the city through the dedicated efforts of Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer. This massive project aims to enhance Izmir's social facilities and green spaces, with active work taking place in the area bordered by the IZBAN line, Meles Creek, and Yeşildere Street, starting from beneath the Atatürk Statue. Under the supervision of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Public Works Department, the demolition of 76 buildings in the Lale, Veziraga, and Küçükada neighborhoods of Konak has already been successfully completed.

Mayor Tunç Soyer of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality conducted site inspections in Yeşildere, where demolition activities are currently underway. Soyer stated, "Structures that have reached the end of their economic viability are being dismantled. The pace of the work will be maintained, and a groundbreaking project that will alter Izmir's skyline will come to fruition here."

Izmir will gain a city park
The International Horticulture EXPO, scheduled to take place from May 1 to October 31, 2026, under the theme "Living in Harmony," anticipates welcoming approximately 5 million visitors. With a focus on fostering international trade across the horticultural sector, spanning from seeds to trees, EXPO 2026 is poised to elevate Izmir's global recognition. The dedicated fairground in Yeşildere will serve as a significant hub, featuring thematic exhibitions, world gardens, art, culture, and culinary events. Beyond the six-month EXPO duration, the area will transform into a lasting city park, contributing to Izmir's appeal as a vibrant and green urban space.
