Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer hosted British Ambassador to Ankara Jill Morris and her accompanying delegation in his office. Expressing his satisfaction with the visit, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Soyer stated that steps should be taken to develop mutual relations further.

Providing information to the guests about the richness, heritage, and potential of Izmir in terms of history, culture, and tourism, Metropolitan Mayor Soyer said, “Izmir is the city of well-being, prosperity, and goodness. We are proud of our nature.”

Praise for Izmir

Speaking highly of Izmir, Ambassador Morris stated that 4 million British citizens come to Turkey as tourists every year. Morris also mentioned she heard about the Izmir-Lesbos flights that started last year and said, “Congratulations, it is a very nice project.” Mayor Soyer also stated, “The travel rate has increased threefold compared to last year.”

Joint projects

Ambassador and President Soyer exchanged ideas to carry out joint projects under climate crisis, resilience to natural disasters, wind energy, eco-tourism, and trade. Mayor Soyer explained their work in the field of eco-tourism. Morris also stated that eco-tourism is now very popular, the nature-based holiday market is growing, and the studies carried out in Izmir are essential. Regarding energy, Mayor Soyer said, “We have a municipal company that produces energy. We can work directly with the municipality.”
