Dutch Ambassador Joep Wijnands and his accompanying delegation visited Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer in his office. Mayor Soyer said they want to benefit from the experience and knowledge of the Netherlands for the Botanical EXPO they will organize in 2026. Ambassador Wijnands stated that they are open to cooperation in many areas.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer hosted Dutch Ambassador Joep Wijnands and his accompanying delegation, who came to the city for the Netherlands Days and various events held between 2-5 October, in his office. The meeting discussed multiple topics, including agriculture, culture, economy, climate crisis, and water management, primarily focusing on agriculture.

Soyer: “We would like to contact agriculture associate professors in the Netherlands”

Stating that Izmir has a strong potential for cooperation, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer said, “We are organizing the Botanical EXPO in 2026. It will be a first experience. We would like to benefit from the support, guidance, and experience of the Netherlands. We are opening an Agricultural School. We want to increase awareness of agriculture. We would like to contact agricultural teachers in the Netherlands. Türkiye is also an agricultural country. We can plan agricultural production in our region. We are facing a water crisis. “The water comes out deeper now,” he mentioned. While there may be cooperation at fairs, Mayor Tunç Soyer stated that they focus on bicycle use.

Wijnands: “We are ready to cooperate with you”

Stating they attach great importance to their relations with Turkey, Dutch Ambassador Joep Wijnands said, “We should work together, especially in agriculture, culture and economy. Water management and climate crisis are issues that we also attach importance to and are strong in the Netherlands. “We are ready to cooperate with you,” he said. Wijnands thanked Mayor Soyer for popularizing the use of bicycles.
